A federal lawsuit  filed by a blind Miami University student accuses the university of using technology that presents a barrier to her education.

Junior Aleeha Dudley, of New Paris, says course materials are inaccessible to her text-to-speech software and she hasn't received material in Braille or other tactile forms she can use without help to offset her lack of sight.

The lawsuit, filed last week, says Miami failed to provide equal access in violation of federal law.
Dudley, who wants to go veterinary school, said her hopes of being admitted to a graduate program have been "jeopardized, if not destroyed," because of lackluster grades she blames on barriers to completing coursework.

She compared the school's conduct to a public place with unneeded entrance steps and no ramp.
Dudley also said touch screen systems used at the southwest Ohio university prevent her from ordering food or even doing laundry without help.

The university denied Dudley's allegations, spokeswoman Claire Wagner said in a statement.
According to the Dayton Daily News, Dudley wants Miami to expunge her grades, pay her tuition and costs to repeat three academic years, pay her legal fees, pay other damages and provide relief determined by the court.

The lawsuit also seeks an injunction ordering Miami to stop violating disability laws.

"I am frustrated," Dudley said. "But the biggest of my goals is that I really want to help somebody who comes behind me as a blind student pursuing science. Maybe not only at Miami, but at other universities so that they don't have these same frustrations, and they're not nearly as exhausted and frustrated as I am about this."

This is the full text of the latest message from the Boko Haram leader, ABUBAKAR SHEKAU. The transcribed
message, which was delivered in Hausa and in Kanuri, reads as follows:
“Of course there is no doubt about it; we carried out the attacks in Maiduguri and we were responsible for the
other attacks being carried out all over. But the Giwa Barracks attack is something worth telling, because
Allah has helped us to kill his enemies in Giwa Barracks. We launched the Maiduguri attacks and killed infidels
in Giwa Barracks.
But specifically, I will devote half of my speech to the issue of Civilian JTF. Your name is not Civilian JTF but
Civilian Trouble. My advice to you so-called Civilian-JTF is to flee, take up arms, get conscripted into the
army or police, because I am telling you is that I have started a war against you. The war against you has
just begun.
In this world, there are two kinds of people; there are those who are with us or those who are against us, and
the latter group are those I’ll kill once I spot them. From now on, my focus of attack is going to be the
Civilian-JTF.
Let the Civilian-JTF know that this is me, Shekau talking. You will now really understand the person called
Shekau. You don’t know my madness, right? It is now that you will see the true face of my madness. I swear
by Allah’s holy name that I will slaughter you. I will not be happy if I don’t personally put my knife on your
necks and slit your throats. Yes! I’ll slaughter you! I’ll slaughter you! And I’ll slaughter you again and again.
I call on all my followers and brethren wherever you are, to rise and take up arms and start killing the
vagabond. Kill them, kill them and kill them. Now our religion and our way of worship is nothing but killings,
killings and killings! Kill and slaughter but don’t eat them. You should spare the old, women, the lunatic, and
the repentant.
You only succeeded in arresting innocent civilians in the city, placing tyres on their necks and setting them
alight. By Allah, I will kill you. Killing is my job. Let’s kill them all, we’d rather leave this world. Let the whole
world perish! May Allah curse you!
Oh! Allah, they are your servants but are they are assisting (Goodluck) Jonathan, they are your servants who
pray but are humouring the Koran, they are your servants but are assisting Clinton and Obama.
Allah gave us the courage to break into Giwa Barracks (where) we killed and we burnt. We rescued over 2,000
of our brethren, and most of them Commanders!…One of them even took up a gun and started fighting there.
They all got away.
Glory be to Allah. The world has changed! Work has started. And for your information, western education is
forbidden. University is forbidden, you should vacate university! You should leave university, I hate university.
You should quit university, I hate it, bastard.
Western education is totally forbidden. Girls, you should return to your homes. In Islam, it is allowed to take
infidel women as slaves and in due course we will start taking women away and sell in the market.
We carried out the Maiduguri attack. And those you killed included freed detainees who were not our members
but ordinary people who on being freed headed to town, thinking they were safe. They were dressed in shorts
and when you encountered them you mistook them for us and killed them. This was what really happened.
We rescued all of our brethren, we gave them clothing, shelter, vehicles, food and all they needed….Our
brethren are in good state, we thank God.
“Nigerians, let me let you know that you are in serious disaster. Don’t think we are northerners, because you
are misunderstanding the whole thing.
Let me make it crystal clear to you save you from unnecessary distorted newspapers and the radio analysis
on issues you don’t understand. We are not fighting the north, we are fighting the world. And you will see us
fighting the world. This is our job.
I promise that we will kill all your (Muslim) clerics. Just like I killed Albani and it was splashed all over the
newspapers. I’ll kill them all. Who was Albani, he was nothing. I’ll kill all of them. I’ll spare none but who
follow Allah and the Prophet. Whoever follows Jews and the west is my enemy.
My brethren wherever you are, in Abuja, Lagos, or the south-south, wherever you are, commence attacks. Even
as an individual, take up your swords and slaughter anyone you come across in his sleep.
My brethren, take up knives and start slaughtering people. Just pick up your knife and break into homes and
kill. I heard some people asking Jonathan to relocate to the northeast to take charge of the fight against us,
but let me tell you, Jonathan is too small, let even Obama, the President of America relocate to Nigeria and
take charge, we will not be deterred”
- ABUBAKAR SHEKAU, SUPREME COMMANDER OF BOKO HARAM, PREMIUM TIMES, 24th MARCH, 2014.
Ogar Emmanuel Oko, a 500 level student of Electronics and Computer Technology (ECT) UNICAL. He is the
leader and coordinator of the Youth Alliance for Northern Cross River Dreams (YANCRID); one of the most
vibrant youth forum in Cross River State. In this interview, he tells Sam Ibok a 400 level Curriculum and Teaching about
the objectives of the forum and the Challenges facing Nigerian Youths.

Q: Can I meet you Sir?
ANS: I am Comr. Ogar Emmanuel Oko, aka (BABA 50); I’m an indigene of Yala Local Government Area of Cross
River State, by the grace of God, A final year student of Electronics and Computer Technology from the
University of Calabar. I am the former President Echo Press Organization and the Emeritus National President of
the Nigerian Union of Campus Journalist. I have held various offices such as the News Editor, Deputy Editor-
in-Chief and the Editor in Chief of NUCJ. Currently, I am the leader of the Youths Alliance for Northern Cross
River Dream (YANCRID).
Q: What is the Youths Alliance for Northern Cross River Dreams, all about?
ANS: The fundamental objectives and directive principles of the alliance include but not limited to:
i. Creating a platform(s) for the discuss of issues affecting the youths
ii. Preparing the youths for the political, economic, and social ideological actualization for the peoples of
northern Cross River State
iii. Nurturing and shaping the youths to be able to condemn and oppose all forms of discrimination, exploitation
injustice, and particularly, political victimization and degradation of human beings.
What do you think are the challenges facing Nigerian youths?
Hmm! A typical Nigerian youth is crippled with the manacle of political segregation and economic inequality.
This is intrinsically due to political affinity and religion affiliation. However, I wouldn’t want to say poverty,
because poverty is of the individual mindset. Not lack of education, because many graduates are loitering the
streets without job. An average Nigerian youth is not given equal opportunities like his counterpart in other
land and climes. I think unemployment wrap it all.
Q: What are the solutions to these challenges?
ANS: First, the youths must see themselves as one irrespective of ethnicity, political tiers or religion belief.
Secondly, the youths should co-join forces together and elect youth as president, governors, and senators and
even local government chairman. Finally, the youths should be empowered by acquiring skills through
entrepreneurship development programme.
How true is the saying, youths are the leaders of tomorrow?
There is no iota of truth in that saying. This is an age-long deceitful saying used by the elites to hypnotize the
youths into hoping in futility. Since as a child, I have being hearing that saying even till now, but shamefully
enough, I have not seen youth leading in any renown capacity.
Q: What is behind your leadership drives?
ANS: The passion to serve that evolves from the melody of a freedom of a librated mind. It means the joy that
comes when changes are effected.
What are your score cards since assumption as the coordinator?
Under my superintendent, most youths are beginning to appreciate a new level of thinking, new attitudinal and
behavioral change. During the previous local government area elections, we organized a sensitization campaign
aimed at educating the youths on electoral education. We are enlightening the youths against child
prostitution; modern slaving (child labour), restiveness and other anti-social activities such as cultism and drug
abuse. With this, the mind is reviewed and renewed for a new level of thinking and mental emancipation.
Q: How will you address the security situation in Nigeria especially the menace of Boko Haram insurgency?
ANS: Since these people are Islamic extremists, with ultra-vires mindset, it means that the battle of this
warfare is less political and more of religion. Karl Marx says that religion is the opinion of the people. However,
section 4, sub (1) (c) of the Youths Alliance stipulates that YANCRID shall maintain absolute neutrality on
partisan issues that anchor on religion; faith and belief. Therefore, I cannot delve into it. Hence, the Federal
Government should use religion force in tackling the menace rather than engaging them with military forces
that seemed overwhelmed by the insurgent’s tactics.
Q: What is your advice to the youth?
ANS: We should return to our creator and seek the knowledge of our being in existence. By so doing, we shall
realize that we are meant to be the head and the tail. To rule and not to be used by some politicians as thugs
and ballot box snatchers. The youths should equip themselves with entrepreneurship skills.

Sam Ibok is a student journalist from the Faculty of Education, University of Calabar.

Authorities of the Bowen University, Iwo, yesterday shut down the institution and ordered the students
to vacate the campus immediately following a student disturbance on Wednesday over alleged
incessant power outage and epileptic water supply.
The students protested poor power supply to the hostels and insufficient water service.
The protest, however, turned violent with reports of damage to school property and looting of some
traders’ shops and facilities, forcing the authorities to invite the police that eventually quelled the riot.
Ten of the rioters were arrested by the police for alleged looting.
But, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Matthew Ojo, in an interview with Daily Sun , gave a
different twist to the story.
He said the immediate cause of the demonstration was the disruption of the viewing of a
European League match on TV by some of the students in one of the male hostels, due to an electrical
fault on Wednesday night.
This reportedly angered the spectators, who trooped out and started demonstrating.
The Vice Chancellor denied that there was ever inadequate power supply on campus, disclosing that
the management provide at least 13-hours supply on standby generator on daily basis.
Justifying the closure of the school and a 10-day forced break for the students, Prof Ojo said this
became imperative due to their recalcitrant attitude to allow peace and order to reign.
“They are pressing for the release of their colleagues who were arrested by the police for breaking into
other people’s shops and looting under the guise of the riot a condition to stop fomenting trouble.
“As management, we have undertaken to go and bail them, but, this is a criminal matter that the police
have a right to handle their own way and there can’t be dictating to law enforcement agency. So, we
have asked them to go home for a 10 day-break and come back,” he said.
The Baptist-owned university resumed session barely three and half weeks ago. Semester examinations
are not however, due until May 29, it was learnt.

Muna Obiekewe is recently faced with a huge charge of buzzing-off his image from an internet clip which displayed him and Biola Ige partially naked while he sucks Biola's boobs. In the interview the Nolywood star confessed that the scence hasnt ever taken place anywhere either in a movie or real life.
Are you aware there is an x-rated picture of you and Biola Ige all over the internet, both of you partially
naked, with you, sucking her boobs?
I was made aware of it. I don’t remember the movie. I also don’t remember sucking Biola’s breasts. If the
movie exists, that scene never took place.
The film is ‘Pregnant Hawkers’ and were you and Biola Ige involved in any sensual scene where you were both
nude, making love, real and unreal?
Like I told you, I don’t recall the movie. I do a lot of movies and I can’t remember what happens in all of
them. The fact that I don’t recall means that the movie was shot a long time ago. Probably three or more
years back. when love scene was in vogue with producers. I’m still searching for the movie to acquaint
myself with the story.
There has never been anything between myself and any actress that I’ve made a movie with. My romantic
relationships have always been outside the movie industry. I don’t take my work home.
But you seem to have the knack for romantic scenes. Why?
Love making scenes are normal in movies. When we see them in foreign movies it’s nothing. But when it’s
done here, people start questioning actors morality. Bear in mind that these scenes are not shot the way it’s
finally seen when the movie comes out. Nothing ever actually happens. Not with about ten people in the
production crew in the room with you.
I want to add that the aim in making movies is to enlighten people. You want them to see exactly what’s
happening in the world around them. You want them shocked into action against whatever it is you’re trying
to portray. Avoiding to touch, the sensibilities of people only result in those things you want seen and treated,
ignored. In that regard, I try to make my acting as real as possible without actually doing something wrong.
How do you feel being labelled a porn star, because some people feel that is what you are actually becoming
in the industry
I’m not a porn star and I never will be. Love making scenes are sometimes inclusive in a movie and should be
done with class. Sometimes editors and directors don’t edit or direct well and it comes out wrong. Will you
call any of the American or British movie stars a porn star?
As a top brand in Nollywood and as a sex symbol: how do you handle advances from women?
I avoid them. And please, I’m not a sex symbol. I’ve done two hundred movies, out of which only about ten of
them have anything concerning sex. Why are people concentrating on those? An actor, before he can be
acknowledged as one, has to play quite a number of roles in his career.

Diane Oputa also known as Lady D is an American-Nigerian. She hails from South American and ended up marrying Charles Oputa, a Nigerian Musician whose stage name is Charly boy. He tips the secret of her 35 years marriage.

What's been happening for 35 years?
Sometimes, I wonder if it is really up to 35 years. Maybe it’s because one is just enjoying the ride. When you
are comfortable and you do the things you like to do and you are around people that you enjoy, you wouldn’t
just realize when time is going by. But it is going by because I see my children in college graduating with first
degrees, definitely something is changing around me. It is a long journey and we have had ups and downs
within the 36 years that we have been together. But we are happy together. A lot of couples haven’t got that
far-we are really privileged.

What I enjoyed most in marriage
Companionship. Like I said, all couples have their ups and downs but we have been able to sort things out by ourselves. Also, we communicate a lot. Talking is a key thing in any relationship and we always point this out anytime we are interviewed. Honesty and agreement are also important. We strive to make things good for ourselves and our extended family including our children and parents. We look beyond just ourselves.

Hard part of it
I guess it is just the small things that every couple experiences in a relationship. It may be disagreement in
raising the kids among others. I also have step children to look after. The bottom-line is the resolve by both
of us to make the relationship work.

My home
I have seven kids altogether out of which three are mine biologically, the rest are step children. We are all
very close. We reprimand those who are not doing well and commend those who are doing well. We try and
work with them and they know they have our love as parents. They don’t really look at me as their step mum
and that is how I have always wanted it to be. They all call me by my first name.
I hate it when they use the appellation ‘Ma’ for me. It hurts me. One of my step children came to Nigeria
some years back and when he saw me he was overwhelmed. He never knew that a step mother could have
such a positive influence on one’s life.

Coming to live in Nigeria
With regards to coming to Nigeria, I don’t think I would have changed anything. But I think if someone had
told me that I would come and live in Nigeria and have kids here, I would have told whoever the person is
that it was not possible. The first time I came to Nigeria, I wanted to stay for three months but I ended up
staying for nine months. So, it’s not about the country but the person who brought me to Nigeria. I don’t
want to brag but I am grateful to God for my relationship.

How I got hooked
From the beginning, meeting Charles was different because he was a Nigerian. I have never really gone out
with a Nigerian. I have a lot of American boyfriends but not a Nigerian. I really wanted to know much about a Nigerian man and his culture and people. That was what really intrigued me.

Coping at the home front
He takes care of his family very well. If he had not proven to be a family man, I probably would not have
been in Nigeria in the first place. He has been a good husband and father to his children.

Advice for young couples
I think they have to first get it right from the start. I think dating is very important. You need to know what
you want to get yourself into. For women, it is not because the clock is ticking and for men, it is not about
what you have. But you need to know the person you want to spend your life with before you commit
yourself. We make mistakes but people have to be careful. One of the things that work for me and my
husband is that he is not a typically and culturally Nigerian man, maybe it is because of his exposure.

The scholarship also frees them from financial worries with regard to their education and gives them and their families’ peace of mind".

The tragedy which rocked the airwaves at about 4:30pm on Valentine’s Eve tour the students community who were already dotting-up with their red and black colour-touches for the huge Valentine show which Eka was supposed to be the host.
The vehicle was damaged beyond repair, while Eka sustained a head injury. He was immediately rushed to Unical medical center where he was refered to Unical teaching hospital.

The Chairman of the Calabar University Electoral Committee (CUECO) Dr. Idaka Idaka has reiterated that the committee does not rig the SUG election. Dr. Idaka made the remark in a chat with Campuslight crew who visited him recently.
The CUECO is mandated by section 50 of the SUG Constution to organize the SUG elections and present the winners for inauguration to the Vice Chancellor. Dr. Idaka a two-time Chairman of the Committee said the task of conducting the SUG election is an enormous one. “Coupled with the stress and the task of organizing an election for such large students’ community, you will realize that people will always talk. When you try to be principled and disciplined, people will always fault you. But I am not disturbed because I know that I am doing the right thing.
“When I was appointed as the Chairman, I met my two bosses-the Vice Chancellor and the Dean of Students Affairs. I asked them what my terms of reference were and they told me they want a free and fair election. Good! I worked with that. We don’t rig election. I wasn’t looking to the right or left. We made sure elections were conducted and results announced the same day before night falls. That is what we all want. I appreciate the support of the Vice Chancellor and I really thank him for he is a good leader.
“After the election, delegates came from CRUTECH and other campuses asking us how we were able to hold the election without crisis or fights and shootings. That was great! It showed we did what was admirable.
As for the next SUG election, I am not sure if I will appointed to Chair the committee but lets keepour fingers crossed. I will advice the next chairman to learn from our mistakes and perform better”, he concluded.

Twas a blow of pomp and pageantry in the Calabar city as students of University of Calabar blow up hugely, tripping for the fun of the Studnets Week. The students week is a fraction of the fun and social life often found in Nigerian Campuses. For the University of Calabar Students, it was of fun and commedy. The excerpts cracks the ribs:

Our Online Editor, Raymond chilling it out as he covered the event.
It also featured the students carnival, a replica of the annual Calabar Carnival. It was all about fun. The Faculty of Management Science took the trophy as the Winner of the Carnival Show for the year 2014 organized by the office of the SUG Vice President.

A student who was identified as Paul Mikki has expressed appreciation to God for successful surgery which was described as a narrow escape. While giving the details of the surgery, Mr. Mikki a graduate of University of Calabar challenged the Nigerian Government to improve on funding for health facilities and activities because health is wealth.
Mikki recently relaunched his usual Facebook rolls, keeping his peeps on with jokes as he posted his picture while he was hospitalized.

He latter disclosed that he was out with fresh hue of life. He commented: “thank God for a successful operation. I am now back and better. This God is too much”

I am one of the proponents of anti-Feminism. The reason I chose to tread the path is because Feminism, as an ideology, just like the screeching force of Capitalism, it’s acts and styles, have never meant well for our society and country.
Can I tell you this? FEMINISM is far beyond the usual lifting of pla-cards by female activists which you see on Television. It is more than the usual perception of equal social, political, economic rights for women and agitations carried out in like manner; which is their battle cry. It is more than the female talk show and gender debates where awards are issued to best female speakers and women who have demonstrated outstanding masculinity in the society, by overthrowing men and taking over the platform.
On a more global platform, there is this issue which plays out often of which you need no soothsayer in order to believe that it is the handwriting of Feminists. There is this scene which feminists create to make them (women) feel they are dejected and dis-privileged. They would want you and me to see a world of women and children who have been rendered homeless as a result of war strikes, natural disasters and civil crisis all over the world. They would want you to see the poverty and wretchedness which besiege women in the locales and especially in the midst of broad-chested men in our society. They would show you a pictures and videos of malnourished juveniles, roughly clamed on the shoulders of their poorly-dressed mothers; so pitiable they were.
That is the sign post of FEMINISM. Have you ever seen them? That is what they display to cause you to capture the worst conditions women and children pass through, to drag your pity, sell the feminist ideology and win more souls to their outraged kingdom.
Well, may I put it plainly here that women’s right aren’t denied them! They have same stake as men in the world we live. Good to know, the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria further informs a more-modest society; one which gives women the sense of been like others in the daily plays and chores; one which guarantees a deep-down-the-trunk operation for both genders in the country without segregation or differentiation.
We have a society which dishes out its virtues, values and dividends to every sector of its territory; to every platform of socio-political existence; one which proposes a desk of policies which has no registration of gender fixes and sentiments. That is what we have in Nigeria.
In Nigeria, no gender is dis-privileged. No gender is mistreated nor counted as naught in the midst of others.
Now, lets’ look at what FEMINISM stands for. It stands for a country where there must be a woman President. Well, there is nothing wrong having a female President in Nigeria. But Feminists will want you to believe that the females are mistreated because Nigeria has not had any female president.
Feminism stands for a county where women must take up political roles and offices just like men. It stands for a country where the women must share the state 50:50 with men! It stands for a state where the Governor’s wife will jump over the head of his husband and take over the mantle of leadership in the state. It stands for a county where the First Lady will surmount the political, administrative and traditional powers of her husband, jump into the desks of presidential operations, take decisions in the state, command the state forces, plough and plough the country and make her lily-livered husband a mere spectator.
That is Feminism for you! It stands for country where the First Lady will jump from state to state, breathing threats on the state Governors and politicians who have different political views from that of her husband. It stands for a Student Union where the women will swear to take up the helm of affairs; take up other key and sensitive position in the Students Union and leave the men as power fads and spectators. It stands for a school where the female lecturers will stamp their feet to the floor and insist on taking up the school’s leadership, leaving the male lecturers as wagers. That is feminism in action!
As we celebrate the Women achievers in the world, we should challenge Nigerian women to explore and take the best chances in the society that suit their individual passions rather than been led by the nose by hypnotists of Feminism. The women should stay focused on their God-given chore of nurturing the future leaders from the fresh milks of their breasts. They should stick to their most vital responsibilities of establishing a more competitive social platform for girl-child training and development to reduce the rebounding rate of teenage marriage, teenage pregnancy, abortion, prostitution and other social inadequacies which mare our social identity.
As we celebrate Nigerian women achievers, it should be a time we join the herald and say: ‘Yes’ when it comes to Gender Equality; ‘Yes’, when it comes to Gender sensitivity; ‘Yes’ when it comes to the call to rise and defend that woman whose husband has abandoned on the streets;
It should be a time to rise and say ‘Yes’ to the call to protect the young and old widows from victimization by her militant in-laws; ‘Yes’ to the call to send our female children to the classrooms; ‘Yes’ to the call to protect that collage kid who is been victimized by her sex-lorded teacher(s) in school and class rooms.
Also, this is a time we should stand up and say ‘No’ to the Feminist movements that traverse sea and land to train up female anarchists who will position on the edge to combat powers with men and political leaders. That is what we are saying.
We are saying “Yes” to gender equality and “No” to FEMINISM!

EMMANUEL SHEBBS
In the 3-day journey to the Collage of Education (COE) Akampka, Cross River State, the students from tertiary institutions in the South East and South-South Geopolitical zones in Nigeria, which make up the Zone B branch of NANS came together to reason on new strategies to adopt in leadership order than crisis and victimization. The students, who came with their school buses, gathered in the COE for the annual convention, under the leadership of Comr. Chinomso Obasi who is NANS Zone B Coordinator.
The convention started with a brief remark by the Coordinator. In his address, Comr. Obasi welcomed the students for making out time and sacrificing so much to honour the call of NANS. He noted that the struggle of student unionism is not for gains but for sacrifice and show of patriotism.
He pointed out some of his achievements for the past one year to include the establishment of Student Union in most schools whose Student Unions may have been proscribed by the management due to one issue or the other. At such a time, they will be victims of rumour mongers and they will react to any negative information which rumours sell to them. That is why Campuslight Newspaper has come up to make sure that such information lacuna is been filled up and the students are been constantly enlightened with realities on campus and the school managements are also made to understand what the needs of the students are”.
In his reaction, Comr. Imagwe who was once the National President of National Association of Nigerian Students before his appointment noted that information is a necessary tool for academic development. Comr. Imagwe said: “President Jonathan tries as much as possible to make sure that he creates a relationship between students and youths.
“This is first time that the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Students and Youths has been exalted to this level. What we had during the time of President Olusegun Obasanjo was a Personal Assistant. When President Goodluck Jonathan came, he said that we deserve a higher status and created the office of Senior Special Adviser.
“He has equally demonstrated his love for students and youths in the CONFAB. When president Obasanjo did his CONFAB I think it was just two persons that were asked to represent students and youths. But this time around President Jonathan gave six slots each for the students and youth groups and another six for special youth groups. He has really shown his passion for students and youth development and all we have to do is to support him in his efforts.

He encouraged campus journalists to continue in their good works in as much as they engage themselves with more professional skills in media and journalism.

It is not fully in use in this part of the world. We are not used to it. I hope that next time we shall have enough time to develop more on the format.
On his own, Unical’s Aka Augustine, described the Parliamentary Debate Format as an internationally adopted format. “The format is an international standard. More than 200 African students from 23 African Universities have held a candle procession in honour of late freedom advocate, Nelson Madiba Mandela of South Africa (SA).
The candle procession was organized by Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), SA in partnership with University of Calabar (Unical).
The demise of President Mandela coincided with the Pan African Universities Debate Championship as the students who were already gathered over the weekend for the debate took out sometime after the Semi Final round off the competition to honour the Pan Africanist. One of the students, Tom Bisi from TUT, SA spoke with our correspondent. She said: “We feel sad that while we were aware for a patriotic business, we lost our father. We received the news early hours of Thursday with shock. May his soul rest in peace.
The candle procession which held in Unical started from the University Satellite Town Gate. The students formed a long line and held candles on their hands. The match was led by two students from TUT, SA who held South African flag with an inscription: “In remembrance of Madiba Mandela. Presented by Tshwane University of Technology to the University of Calabar, Nigeria”.
Some of the students held placards with inscriptions: “Adeiu the freedom fighter”; “rest in peace Madiba” etc.
The African Students were chanting songs in different languages as the match was on. When the Nigerian students took over, they chanted songs like:“papa no dey o, mama no dey o, if you want to kill me, kill me make i die, i will never follow you to that station”; Others chorused.

“Nelson’s life stories have taught me that freedom is a product of sacrifice and if we must be liberated from economic bondage masterminded by the west against Africa, we must pay a sacrifice for it”, said Thosi Mbawa, a post graduate student of TUT, SA.
To Chuki Mbossakiya, “the death of Mandela is a great loss to Africa. We are mourning his death with grief in our hearts because we have lost a father whose change theories have affected Africa”. Another student, Madiwe Chikadibia from Nigeria told our correspondent that “late Madiba is a man of the people. We have come together as African youths with one spirit, voice and oration to pay a unified respect to him”.
As African youths, we have a duty to stick to the deep-sinking beliefs of our compatriots”, were the words of Cossy Chief from University of Botswana. He continued: “Madiba is a man whose life’s submissions have impacted in Africa and Africans in general. We took it upon ourselves as a duty to honour this great man because we are youths who have generally benefited from his freedom fights”.
