As the whole world of Christians celebrate the birth Christ on
December, 2013, student leaders took out some time to tie the nuptial bliss
with their heartthrobs. Charles Udenze reports.
As 2013 was winding up,
Christians all over the world were popping in merriment during Christmas time.
The joy of the Christmas was not just the hue for Nigerian Students but the
news that student leaders at various parts of Nigeria were on the Alter with
their missing ribs. These student leaders, coincidentally mapped out chose
December 2013 to make red with their loved ones and family members as they made
merry.
In south-south Nigeria was a
gathering of student leaders from Cross River State, Akwa Ibom and surrounding
states. It was at Calabar, an iconic tourist centre in Nigeria. It was not just
the Christmas hue of the Calabar carnival that kept the city warm during that
time but also the Holy Matrimony of the number one student in the state, Comr.
Hillary Bissong who is the Personal Assistant to the Cross River State Governor
on Students Affairs.
Comr. Bissong, with his lover,
Miss Josephine Ogar (as she was known) climbed the stage of St. Bernard
Catholic church to be joined in Holy Wedlock.
Apart from the student leaders
who hugely pulled to the event, the venue was creamed by the presence of
dignitaries like the State Governor, Sen. Liyel Imoke, the Deputy Governor,
Barr. Effiom Cobham, the Speaker State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Larry Odey
among others including commissioners, national and international politicians
from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The minister of the day, Rev. Fr.
Malachi Ife congratulated the newly wedded couples. He noted that true love is
hard to find and youths should seek the face of God in order to avoid errors in
their marriages.
Comr. Bissong expressed
appreciation to God for making the event a success. “I thank God for the day’s
event. I also thank our sponsor Maj. Gen. Moses Obi (Rtd) and other
personalities who attended the event.
Far in Okposi village in Ohaozara
Local Government of Ebonyi state was gathered student leaders of the National
Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). It was on the occasion of Holy
Matrimony between Comr. Chinonso Obasi, a student of Petroleum Training Institute
who is the Zone B Coordinator of NANS and his lovely wife, ......
It happened at Redeemed Christian
Church of God, Revelation Parish. Hugely in attendance were present and past
student leaders of NANS like the Special Adviser to the President Goodluck
Jonathan on Students, Comr. Jude Imagwe, who was once a National President of
NANS before his appointment. Other dignitaries include former Minister of
Education, Dr. Igwe Ajanwachukwu, former Afikpo Local Government Chairman Barr.
Igwe Igariwey, Chief Executive Officer Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Warri,
stakeholders and leaders of NANS, student groups from PTI among others.
The reception held at A-Zed Hotel
Oposi. In his remarks, Comr. Obasi thanked the participants for honouring his
event. “My profound gratitude goes to God who created us to be together, my
parents and all those who have come to witness today as we express our love for
each other.
In Umunwanwa Community in Umuahia
South Local Government were gathered the friends and loved ones of Hon. Mr.
Oluchi Nwosu, a student leader, final year Public Administration Micheal Okpara
University of Agriculture and the Councillor representing Umumnwanwa Ward in
Umuahia South Local Government Council. Mr. Nwosu was joined in holy wedlock
with his lovely wife, Mrs. Nkiru Nwosu at the Saints Andrews and Charles
Catholic Church located in Umunwanwa.
The officiating minister, while
performing his obligation advised the couples to avoid the role of third
parties in their marriage. He said “third parties are poisonous in a relationship.
They are manipulators of failure in a marriage. They could be your friends. You
may not know their intensions till they achieve their aims. Always pray to God
and forgive each other when there is misunderstanding.
In attendance were dignitaries
like the Chairman Umuahia South Local Government, PDP stakeholders in Abia
State and other dignitaries from the Abia State Government House.
At Udo/Obizi, Abia State, far in
the South Eastern Nigeria was a host of student leaders resident in the South
East Nigeria. They gathered to witness Comr Chinedu Osuagwu as he tied the
nuptial bliss with his lover, Mrs. Chisom Osuawu who hailed from Bokwu Obizi in
Ezinihite Mbaise in Imo State. It held at St. Bernard Catholic church Obizi
parish. The clergy of the day, Rev. Fr. Jude Onyeaghula was full of glee as he
admired the celebrities who had pulled such a large gathering.
In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Onyegbula
noted that marriage is a union established by God. He said God gave us the
example of marriage and only the perfect will of God can make best marriage
couples. He advised youths and younger generation to always seek the face of
God before engaging in marital relationships.
At the event were a host of
personalities like Prof. Patrick Namocha, Barr. Mrs. Adol Ogbonna, Comr.
Aguocha Chidebere among others.
On why the Christmas era was
chosen for the event, Comr. Obasi said it was time when we come to celebrate
the love of God who gave us his son. We chose the Christmas period to build up
our joy because we wish to see a host of relatives and celebrate with our
friends and well wishers who had come back home.
