THE president of the Students’ Union Govrenment (SUG) of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Bassey Eka, and three others crashed in a Toyota Camry wagon along the Ikom-Calabar Highway.
The tragedy which rocked the airwaves at about 4:30pm on Valentine’s Eve tour the students community who were already dotting-up with their red and black colour-touches for the huge Valentine show which Eka was supposed to be the host.
The vehicle was damaged beyond repair, while Eka sustained a head injury. He was immediately rushed to Unical medical center where he was refered to Unical teaching hospital.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. James Epoke and the Dean of students Prof. E. U. Eyong visited the hospital to check up the situation. Eka thanked the VC for his immediate response and concern.
In a chat, Eka disclosed that he was not engaged in any Valentine frivolities as contained by most student media. He said: "I was coming from a wedding ceremony of my friend at my village, Abi local government". He expressed confidence that he was responding to treatment.
